Review: Currie GT Shockwave Electric Scooter

Znews.com --
Also known as Schwinn F-18 and Mongoose Hornet F-5
RETAIL PRICE: $439.95 [Online Purchase Information]

The Shockwave is the same model as the Schwinn F-18 and the Mongoose Hornet F-5. All are manufactured by Currie Technologies.

Currie GT Shockwave Scooter One of the newest Currie scooters, the top-of-the line Shockwave boasts a powerful 600W motor, with 40% more torque than the previous Phat Flyer SE model (which had a 350W motor), as well as a front shock and a rear swingarm shock, which is great for pot-holed urban streets or dirt trail use.

This model has the highest torque of the Currie scooters, with strong hill-climbing power, and good off-the-line acceleration to get you across intersections quicky. It's 12" wheels provide more stability than smaller-wheeled scooters, and you'll find this to be a very solid scooter that really provides one of the best rides around.

Top speed averages around 16 mph, the scooter weighs 67 pounds, and the distance range is about 8 miles (depending on rider weight, road conditions, etc.). If you want a longer range scooter, check out the next model down, the Tsunami, which has a 15-mile range, though it is geared slightly differently so it may not provide the same acceleration or hill-climbing ability. The Tsunami also has no rear shocks.

Though the Shockwave has a slightly smaller deck length for standing than the long-range Tsunami, the space is more than adequate for most riders. There's also an optional seat kit, available for $50 (use seat kit# AS-720 for Currie F-18 Swingarm, Currie Lightning, GT Shockwave, Schwinn F-18 and Mongoose Pro Hornet FS). Manufacturer's warranty: 6 months.
